Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery
It all started in 2017. We were trying to put our logos for Johnston’s Cranberry Marsh and Muskoka Lakes Winery together, and they weren’t getting along. We decided it was time to create a new logo with an image that would work for both names. Despite a lot of effort, we didn’t quite succeed. It had to do with some of our new projects.
We’d started planting blueberries on Blueberry Hill, and tapping maple trees, and offering an Ice Trail in winter. How could one logo encompass everything we were doing?
We reminded ourselves that everything we do stems from where we live. We grow crops that are suited to Muskoka (cranberries, blueberries, maple syrup), we make wine and cider from those crops, and we offer visitors experiences that are unique to where we are and what we do. How could we put all that together?
We decided to simplify our name: Muskoka Lakes Farm & Winery acknowledges that we’re all about place.
What’s in a Logo?
Despite simplifying our name, our logo had to reflect where our journey began and that we’ll always be home to Johnston Cranberries. Since we harvest cranberries into boats, the image represents that celebration. Using a canoe shape acknowledges a Muskoka icon, that our experiences are outdoorsy, and also pays homage to Native history that probably saw cranberries being gathered into canoes. Since we reflect where we live and what we grow in everything we do, the reflection of the canoe makes sense. Finally, the logo is fun and abstract because…so are we! We don’t make traditional wine, we don’t grow traditional crops, and we offer visitors unique experiences!
We hope you like the new logo and will enjoy seeing it more and more as time goes on. Thanks for being part of our story!
